China Visa Exemption Policies
There are three potential visa-free options available for foreigners visiting China, covering many countries worldwide:
Mutual Visa Exemption Policy
China has mutual visa-exemption agreements with 158 countries. Citizens of these countries, holding the appropriate passports, can travel to China for short visits without needing to apply for visas in advance.
Depending on the country, some visitors may only require an ordinary passport, while others may need passports for public affairs or less common types of passports.

Unilateral Visa Exemption Policy
Nationals of the following countries can, with ordinary passports, enter China visa-free for purposes of business, tourism, visits to relatives and friends, exchange visits, and transit, provided that their stay periods do not exceed 30 days. The duration of stay shall be calculated from 00:00 on the day following the day of entry.
Europe (32 countries)
Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malta, Monaco, Montenegro, the Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Switzerland
Oceania (2 countries)
Australia, New Zealand
Asia (4 countries)
Brunei, Japan, Malaysia, South Korea
Latin America (5 countries)
Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Uruguay
(Valid from June 1st, 2025, to May 31st, 2026)
Recent Updates: Starting June 9, 2025, citizens of Saudi Arabia, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain will be granted 30-day visa-free entry. This policy will be extended to citizens of Russia beginning September 15, 2025. Both policies are valid for one year.

Transit Visa Exemption Policy
Foreign nationals with ordinary passports from 54 countries/regions can transit through designated Chinese cities/regions without a visa for up to 240 hours (10 days), as long as they hold confirmed onward tickets to a third country/region and meet all necessary requirements.
During their stay, travel must be restricted to the designated administrative area, such as the province or municipality.

Regular Visa Application
If you do not meet the requirements for visa-free entry, you can apply for either an F visa for academic purposes or an L visa for tourism.
F Visa
Purpose: Academic exchanges and visits
You can obtain an invitation letter from the conference after registering for on-site attendance, which will support your visa application.
L Visa
Purpose: Tourism
Suitable for attendees who wish to combine conference attendance with tourism activities in China.
